BOYNEXTDOOR Wins First Music Show Trophy With "ANIMAL" on M Countdown

BOYNEXTDOOR has their first music show trophy, and it came with “ANIMAL” on the October 8 episode of M Countdown. The group ran against i-dle’s Soyeon and her track “I’m gonna TOESA” for first place, and they finished with 6,453 points in total.

A first win matters for a group at this stage because music show trophies are the closest thing K-pop has to a weekly scoreboard. They don’t tell you how many albums sold, but they show how a title track plays with the public on a single night. The source doesn’t give Soyeon’s point total, so 6,453 is the only number we have for the race.

The episode was packed. Sixteen acts performed, including Hwang Minhyun with “OUR”, KickFlip with “Kick Off The Wall” and “Puzzle Piece”, ALLDAY PROJECT with “CRASH”, NiziU with “Sour Grapes”, CRAVITY with “LOUDER”, and ONEUS with “Say Yes!”. Rothy, TUIDE, CLOSE YOUR EYES, N.Flying, KO1KEYZ, Kim Jae Hwan, hrtz.wav, Hayoon, and HAENA also took the stage. The winner announcement and encore are included in the source, along with the performance clips.

If you want to catch it, look for the October 8 episode and the encore clip. BOYNEXTDOOR’s win is also a useful marker for “ANIMAL”. A first trophy usually means the song is still getting attention weeks after release, so watch whether the group picks up another win on the next few episodes.
